  • 1 heaping cup chocolate chips (semisweet or bittersweet)
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup plus 2 TBSP granulate sugar
  • pinch of kosher salt
  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 TBSP vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter for caramel sauce
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar for caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (room temperature) for caramel sauce
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract for caramel sauce
  • 1/8 tsp kosher salt for caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cream together softened butter and sugars until fluffy.
  2. Mix in the egg and vanilla until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together baking soda, salt, and flour; gradually add to wet mixture.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips; scoop onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake for about 10 minutes until edges are golden brown; cool on a wire rack.
  6. Prepare vanilla ice cream by heating milk, sugar, and salt; stir in cream and vanilla, then chill before churning.
  7. Make caramel sauce by melting butter, then stirring in brown sugar and cream until smooth; add vanilla extract.
