  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground cardamom (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples; set aside.
  3. In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter in the pan; layer half of the apple slices on top.
  7. Add remaining batter; spread gently over apples and place remaining slices decoratively on top.
  8. Mix sugar and cinnamon for topping; sprinkle over cake.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
  10. Let cool before slicing; serve warm or at room temperature.
