  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for frosting)
  • 12 tablespoons heavy cream, if needed (for frosting)
  • cinnamon sugar, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In one bowl, sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon together. In another bowl, blend vanilla extract, milk, and sour cream until smooth.
  3. Beat softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients and wet ingredients into the butter mixture until just combined.
  5. Fill each liner two-thirds full with batter and bake for 18–22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. After cooling completely, prepare the frosting by mixing cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Frost cooled cupcakes and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before serving.
